Glenn Elston OAM, the Artistic Director of the Australian Shakespeare Company, has been atthe forefront of bringing the magic of open-air theatre to audiences across Australia. From hisfirst outdoor production of The Wind in the Willows in 1987, the ASC has grown into the largestindependent theatre company in Australia. Over the years, ASC productions have captivated thehearts of over a million fans nationwide with acclaimed performances of Shakespearean classics andtimeless family theatre productions.Glenn’s critically-acclaimed productions include Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeoand Juliet, Twelfth Night, The Taming of the Shrew, Much Ado About Nothing, Richard III, Henry IVPt 1, Hamlet, The Comedy of Errors, Macbeth and As You Like It. He has written and directed for thestage, with shows such as The Wind in the Willows, Alice in Wonderland, Jungle Book – The NextChapter, Toad’s Birthday Party, Caribbean Pirates at Polly Woodside, Alice in Never Neverland, LadyChatterley’s Lover, and a Picnic with Cole Porter.In 2003, Glenn partnered with the late Balang Tom E Lewis, founder of the Djilpin AboriginalArts Corporation, to co-produce the annual Djarmalak Festival (formerly Walking with Spirits), acelebration of the ancient Aboriginal tradition of Corroboree at Melkjulumbu (Beswick Falls) NT.Glenn has produced and co-produced a variety of national and international shows including TheSir George Martin in Concert, David Strassman, Hair – The Musical, Two Up with Wendy Stapletonand Glenn Shorrock, Julian Clary, Piaf, Torch Song Trilogy, and Barbara Cook.Recently Elston’s family production, Jungle Book: The Concert Show, toured regional Australia as wellas Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre as part of the 2010 and 2011 Melbourne International ComedyFestival. Glenn also toured the production as part of the 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, alongsideindigenous performer Noel Tovey’s Little Black Bastard.In 2014 the Melbourne City Council presented Glenn with a Melbourne Award for Contribution toMelbourne’s Profile by an Individual. Since 2016, Glenn has produced and directed in London’s RoyalBotanic Gardens Kew. Productions at this iconic venue include Wind in the Willows, Tinkerbell and TheDream Fairies, Godspell – The Musical and Alice in Wonderland.
